Made to measure

-

I enjoyed the letter from Grace Nelson in issue 269, who wrote saying that her husband had made a wooden ironing board 65 years ago. I too, have one made for me by my-then fiancé, Peter. He said he would make me an ironing board using his mother’s as a guide. I said please could he make the board wider and shorter in height – I am under 5ft tall – as it would be easier for me to use. It is still in use today – we have been married 56 years so it is probably 58 years old. It is used for ironing (of course), dressmaking, curtain making and wrapping Christmas presents on. It is well used and well-loved. Having used my daughter’s modern board, I certainly would not want one. In those days it was fun making things for our future home together.
