Materials for one napkin: Gingham-printed cotton fabric cut into 33x33cm (13x13in) squares 132cm (51in) of lace trim (optional) 2 red buttons red cotton thread Green embroidery thread sewing machine
Press and remove all stray threads from your fabric square. On all sides, fold and press a 5mm (¼in) hem.
Fold all the corners in and press so that it makes a triangle.
Then fold down all four sides another 5mm (¼in), press then pin down the hems on all sides.
Using a sewing machine, begin in one corner and sew around all four edges.
If you want to add a lace trim do so now. Pin your trim all the way round and carefully machine sew.
Take a length of green embroidery thread and make a loop in the middle. Tie it in a knot. Arrange the thread on the bottom right side of the napkin so that it resembles a leaf and two stalks. Sew securely in place.
Next, sew on the two red buttons using red cotton. Place them just over the ends of your stalks so that they cover them nicely.
