Dolls capturing the traditional look of 19th Century Scottish fishwives, island dwellers and crofters were made by Sheena macLeod. each was handmade using woven tweeds and wool tartans. more than 20 different dolls were made and 3,000 in total sold through shops in Scotland and exported to the uS, australia and Sweden. early dolls were made using plaster over wire, then polyester resin in the eighties. production ended shortly after. the Design Centre in London included macLeod’s dolls in its index. mint, boxed and signed examples are sought after. this spinning lady doll is valued at £50-£60.
