Real-life story -

Jean and Michael Penketh hadn’t discussed funeral plans, until they read about them in Yours...

“Reading the article made us realise how much hassle and upset a pre-paid funeral plan could save our children,” says Jean. “Our daughter lives in Southern Ireland and it would be difficult for her to arrange a funeral for either of us. And although our son lives near us, he works long hours and we wouldn’t want to put that kind of responsibility on him.” Impressed with their free Yours Guide to Funeral Planning, Jean and Michael booked a home appointment to see which plan would suit them best. “Our specialist was a friendly, helpful lady who didn’t rush or push us into a sale.” The process helped Jean and Michael to talk about more personal details for their funerals, too. “I’m the grandniece of the English composer Albert Ketèlbey and I’d like his orchestral piece, Bells Across the Meadow, played. Our children aren’t keen but it’s written in my funeral plan so they don’t have a choice now!” laughs Jean. “More than anything, our plans have given us peace of mind. They won’t have to make difficult decisions or find thousands of pounds when we’re gone – all they need do is turn up!”
