We tend to think about fa­tigue in terms of phys­i­cal ex­er­tion, but emo­tional stress also de­pletes en­ergy re­serves. “It’s not just ma­jor life events such as los­ing a loved one that drain your bat­ter­ies, the ev­ery­day stresses of fam­ily life take their toll too,” says health psy­chol­o­gist Me­gan Ar­roll. “Emo­tional fa­tigue can leave you feel­ing drained and tense, lead to low mood and even af­fect your brain power. Left unchecked, it could lead to burnout, chronic fa­tigue and im­paired im­mune func­tion, which make it more dif­fi­cult for your body to fight in­fec­tion.”
