Materials: Templates (below, enlarge by 200 per cent) Light brown felt, approx 7×11cm (2¾x4½in) Dark brown felt, approx 8×10cm (3x4in) Spring-green felt, approx 27×30cm (10½x11in) Small piece of black felt Matching sewing threads Leaf-green and light brown stranded embroidery thread Two snap fasteners Needles, scissors, pins 1 Using the templates, cut out one hedgehog body from light brown felt, one hedgehog spikes piece from dark brown felt, and two phone case backs and two fronts from springgreen felt. Also cut out a small dark brown oval for the nose and a small black circle for the eye. 2 Position the hedgehog body and spikes pieces as pictured and pin in place. 3 Sew around the spikes with straight stitches in dark brown sewing thread. Remove the pins and sew around the hedgehog’s face and feet with straight stitches in light brown sewing thread. 4 Using straight stitches in matching sewing threads sew the nose and eye in position on the face. Use black sewing thread to backstitch the smile. 5 Use 3 strands of light brown embroidery thread to sew lots of single straight stitches on the brown spikes. 6 Using doubled green sewing thread, sew the stud halves of the snap fasteners to one end of a back phone case piece, approx 2.5cm (1in) in from each edge. 7 Place all four phone case pieces on top of each other, starting with the decorated front piece with the hedgehog facing downward, then the plain front piece, then the plain back piece, and then the back piece with the snap fasteners on top. Line up the edges and pin together. 8 Using three strands of leaf-green embroidery thread blanket stitch the short ends of the 2 back pieces together, hiding the knot between the layers. Sew across the ends and when you reach the other side, start sewing through all 4 layers to sew down the side, along the bottom and back up the other side. The phone case should now be sewn together except for the top flap. 9 Remove pins. Fold over the top flap and press it onto the studs of the snaps to make dents in the felt. Use these marks to position the other halves of the fasteners on the top flap. Sew them to the inner layer only. 10 Pin the 2 flap pieces together and continue the green embroidery thread blanket stitching round the flap.
