We answer your questions about dating over 50… It’s a great time of year to meet someone new. Getting together for a coffee or a trip to the cinema is the perfect way to brave the worst of the weather – but once you’ve gotten out of the cold, we don’t want you to experience any frosty openings either! First meetings can be daunting but they’re a necessary step to getting to know someone new and it’s important to try to make a good impression. Here are our thoughts as to how best to break the ice – whether it’s online, or when when tyou eventually meet-up... “I want to try online dating, but it’s been a while since I’ve met someone completely new. I want to make sure I make a good first impression and have enough to talk about. Do you have any advice as how best to start the conversation?” We recommend… Meeting for the first time can often be quite awkward for both parties involved – but it’s a skill you can improve. Luckily, being able to message people online is a great way to start a conversation without the pressure. We suggest introducing yourself, and then asking a few questions – let the person you’re contacting know you’re interested in getting to know them. It’s a great idea to share a few hobbies and interests – this way, when you do meet face-to-face, you can continue talking about the things you have in common. Having a list of conversation topics in the back of your mind isn’t such a bad idea either for a first get-together – it might help prevent any awkward or embarassing silences. Though you want to make a good first impression, try not to hold too much back – the sooner they start getting to know the real you, the better!
