Store memories
■ I was very interested in the comments from issue 288 about shopping in department stores in the past. One mentioned the familyowned Schofields in Leeds. In the early Sixties I used to work there, printing the price tickets, and one of the perks was that instead of going to the staff canteen for our tea break, occasionally we would go to the restaurant and have coffee there. We would be served with nice cups and saucers and when finished, the waitresses would come round and refill your cup – no charge. Oh, to bring back some of the nice things from the past!
