Save time and money with these handy tips and tricks says Beauty Editor, Michelle Nightingale

Prevent lipstick bleed with a priming lipliner such as the L’Oréal Paris Le Lip Liner Magique (£4.99). This transparent liner stops your lippie seeping into fine lines and can also be used as a primer over your whole lip area before lipstick.

Use a clarifying shampoo once a week to help remove grease and product build-up that your usual shampoo might be missing. We like Paul Mitchell’s Clarifying Shampoo Two (£10.95/300ml), which leaves hair shiny and fresh, plus is safe to use on colour-treated hair.

Audrey Hepburn reportedly enhanced her doeeyed peepers by separating each lash with a pin! For an easier alternative try Pixi’s

Lash Lacquer Lash Primer (£15), to separate and lift lashes before mascara.

Old mascara wands are perfect for taming unruly brows, so recycle the tube, but keep the brush. For extra hold, spritz with hairspray before combing through.

Use your lip balm as highlighter by dabbing it along each cheekbone after applying your blusher. It gives a lovely natural glow.

Exfoliate – not just your face – but your hands, too. Mix 1 tbsp each of olive oil, coconut oil and sea salt, gently massaging into your hands, rinse and then marvel at your super-soft mitts.

Store all the make-up products you use on a daily basis together in a make-up bag and keep those you only use on special occasions separate. The exception is your make-up brushes which are best stored in a brush roll or holder.

To secure a Kirby grip, sit the bumpy side of the grip against your head. Try spraying the grip with hairspray before fixing into your hair for extra security.

Make your perfume linger for longer by spritzing it on after applying an unscented body lotion, which creates a better surface for it to bind to. A spot of unscented lip balm on the wrists before perfume works well too.

Dip freshly painted nails in a bowl of icecold water to help them set and dry at top speed!

Run out of nail varnish remover, but need to get rid of your old chipped nail polish? No problem! Apply a coat of clear varnish over the top of the old then wipe away with cotton wool.

Fix frizzy hair on the go by smoothing over a little hand cream, but only apply sparingly to avoid greasy locks.

Foundation stains on your favourite top? Don’t panic! Blot away and apply shaving foam to the stain. Leave to soak for a few minutes before rubbing in vigorously. Rinse with cold water and if the stain is still visible repeat the process but rinse with hot water. Wash as normal. Voila!

Finding your foundation is going down rapidly? Switch to a foundation brush instead of a sponge, as they tend to soak up a lot less product.

Apply your body lotion straight after showering, when your skin is warmer and will absorb and retain the hydrating ingredients quicker.
