Knit a handy phone cover with this simple cable pattern

MATERIALS

■ 1 x 50g ball of Patons Diploma Gold DK 6220 Blue

■ Size UK 10 (3.25mm) knitting needles

■ Small or medium cable needle to match UK 10 (3.25mm) knitting needles

BEFORE YOU START

K – knit; p – purl; p1tbl

– purl 1 through back loop; rep – repeat, RS – right side, st(s) – stitch(es)

TENSION

24 sts and 36 rows in stocking stitch to a 10cm (4in) square on UK 10 (3.25 mm) needles.

MEASUREMEN­TS

To fit a phone or MP3/MP4 player approx 12-12.5cm (4¾-5in) high and 6.5cm (2½in) wide.

FRONT/BACK

(make 2 the same) Cast on 19 sts.

Row 1: P6, k1, [p1, k1] 3 times, p6.

Row 2: K6, p1tbl, [k1, p1tbl] 3 times, k6.

Rep last 2 rows once more. Row 5: P6, slip next 4 sts onto cable needle and leave at back of work, k1, p1, k1, then p1, k1, p1, k1 from cable needle, p6. Row 6: K6, p1tbl, [k1, p1tbl] 3 times, k6.

Row 7: P6, k1, [p1, k1] 3 times, p6.

Row 8: K6, p1tbl, [k1, p1tbl] 3 times, k6.

Rep last 2 rows once more. Rows 11-30: Rep rows 1–10 twice more.

Rows 31-36: Rep rows 1-6 once more. Row 37: [K1, p1] to last st, k1.

Row 38: [P1, k1] to last st, p1.

Rows 39-40: Rep Rows 37-38.

Cast off keeping to the k1, p1 pattern.

MAKING UP & FINISHING

Join the two side seams using the flat seam technique.

With the cosy RS together, oversew the bottom seam.

Turn the cosy RS out.

Yours tip:

To adapt the pattern for devices around 11.5cm (4½in) high and 6.5cm (2½in) wide, omit rows 31–36
