Q I’m in a position to financially help support my grandson with his living costs at university. Will my estate have to pay tax on this in the event of my passing?
E Seaton, Norfolk Yours says There are many rules around inheritance tax but, provided you are able to maintain your standard of living, you can give away £3,000 worth of gifts each tax year (April 6 to April 5) without them being added to the value of your estate. This is known as your ‘annual exemption’.

QWhen renewing my house insurance recently, I realised I don’t have a record or receipts of many of my electrical items. Is there an easy way of doing this?
T Rogers, Lanarkshire Yours says Most people have a camera on their mobile phone, so you could go around each room and photograph items to ensure you have a record of serial numbers. You can also list your items online. Immobilise.com is supported by all UK police forces and is the world’s largest free register of possession ownership details. Adding your property helps police get your items back to you if they are stolen and simplifies insurance claims. Q Are there any supportive slippers with a full back?
Jenny L, Cardiff Yours says Homeys takes a fashionable twist on traditional slippers without compromising on comfort. These slippers envelop your feet in a warm, luxury soft lining and feature an easy hook and loop fastener. Available in men’s, women’s and children’s styles from £25.

Q My purse is bursting at the seams with loyalty cards. Is there a way of keeping them organised and accessible?
Heather R, by email
Yours says A handy little tip is to punch a hole in the corner of the card (away from the barcode and magnetic strip) and thread them all onto a keyring in alphabetical order. If you have a smartphone, download the app Stocard via Google Play or on the App Store where you input all your cards onto the app and it will generate a barcode for each shop that can be scanned at the checkout.
