The Harrogate Flower Show

Although some of our favourite spring events have been cancelled, there may be a chance to attend them in autumn, but we can still look forward to next year. This fortnight, the Harrogate Flower Show!

-

Due to run: There may still be a chance to attend this fantastic autumn event in September – the spring flower show had originally been scheduled for April 22-25.

What it is: The event has been running for almost 100 years and was founded by the North of England Horticultural Society, which wanted to showcase seasonal plants and produce grown in the notoriously chilly northern climate! Its history: Since 1927, the society has hosted events twice a year, and began holding shows in Harrogate’s beautiful Valley Gardens in the Thirties. The society suffered during the Second World War, but still had a huge impact on the UK’s Dig for Victory campaign, when British people were encouraged to grow their own produce. Following the war, the society gained its first royal patron.

What’s in store: Since then, the event recently moved to the fabulous Newby Hall and Gardens. With a show garden, plant nursery pavilion, stunning floral art displays, great garden shopping, expert advice and live entertainment, Harrogate Flower Show is perfect for the avid gardener and those who may be looking for some green inspiration or simply just a fun day out!

Can I join in? There are many ways to get involved with the show, so visit the website. Use this isolation period to brush up on your gardening skills and get your patch in tip-top shape so that you can show off those green fingers!

■ Autumn flower show tickets are on sale from May starting at £19.50. Visit www.flowershow.org.uk/ or call 01423 648212 to book and find out more. Note: this could be subject to change, so please check before you book.
