e were delighted when Dame Judi Dench graced the coveted front cover of Vogue magazine earlier this year. The frank interview epitomised the award-winning actress’s character wonderfully, but it was Judi’s styling that got our attention. It might have been tempting to forgo her usual look for something a little more ‘out there’ when appearing in the world’s most iconic fashion magazine. Yet there she was, looking stunning in her familiar signature style. Dame Judi’s carefully crafted look may have an element of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,’ but you certainly couldn’t call it boring, or say she’s in a style rut.

Adopting a signature style is about curating a wardrobe of key pieces that allow you to create figureflattering and feelgood looks whatever the occasion.

Most of us have a wardrobe full of clothes that we don’t wear, so having a clearer style direction will prevent future wasteful purchases.

Judi’s look is about elegance and comfort, for you it might be a key colour, or a pair of trousers that flatter your frame. And don’t panic, you don’t need to invest in a whole new wardrobe – there’s a good chance you have the beginnings of your signature style tucked away already.

Try these style tips and discover yours today…

WA good place to start is by looking at those whose style you admire, then consider how you can make their look work for your own shape and style.

Put aside items you never wear then pull out the pieces you’re drawn to most. It might be a jumper in a colour that always attracts compliments, or a dress that makes you feel amazing. Include accessories too, perhaps a great handbag or a red lipstick. Together, these will become the building blocks of your new style.

Look at your building block pieces and think how you would describe them. It might be feminine, classic, quirky or a particular colour. Have these words at the front of your mind when buying in future.

Even a new style should have elements that are in your comfort zone. If you wear trousers, make a great-fitting pair one of your building blocks. Or if you dislike your arms, choose a lightweight jacket to wear over sleeveless tops and dresses.

Using your building blocks create a capsule wardrobe of key pieces that will work in different ways, and can be added to over time. £4, George at Asda £30, 6-20, Dorothy Perkins £17.99, 6-18, New Look

£15.99, 3-8, Bonprix
