This nautical boat-neck sweater is perfect for summer and so easy you could make it in an afternoon!
MATERIALS
Caron Simply Soft (100% acrylic): 2(2:2:2:3:3) skeins each of #9729 Red (MC) and #9701 White (CC)
One pair each of size 5mm (US 8) and 4mm (US 6) needles or size to obtain correct tension Stitch holder
Yarn needle
TENSION
In stocking stitch using size 5mm (US 8) needles, 18 sts and 24 rows = 4in/10cm
Remember to check tension for best results!
ABBREVIATIONS
CC – contrast colour; K– knit; MC – main colour; RS – right side; sts – stitches; st st – stocking stitch (alternate knit and purl rows); WS – wrong side
STRIPE PATTERN Rows 1-4: With CC, work in st st (k on RS, p on WS). Rows 5-8: With MC, work in st st.
Repeat Rows 1-8 form stripe pattern.
BACK & FRONT (WORKED THE SAME) Using MC and smaller needles, Cast on 90(100:110:120:130:140) sts. Knit 6 rows, ending after a WS row.
Change to larger needles. Work in stripe pattern until piece measures 30.5(33:33:35.5:35.5:38)cm/ 12(13:13:14:14:15)in from cast on edge, ending after Row 4 or 8.
Shape Sleeves
Cast on 13 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Continue in stripe pattern AT THE SAME TIME, work 5 sts at each edge in garter st (k every row).
Work even until sleeves measure approx 20.5(20.5:23:23:25.5:25.5)cm/ 8(8:9:9:10:10)in from sleeve cast on ending after Row 4 or 8.
Change to next color in stripe pattern and work 6 rows in garter st (knit all rows). Cast off loosely.
FINISHING
Sew side and underarm seams. Sew shoulder seams closed, leaving centre 25.5cm (10in) open. Try on for desired neck width.
Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
