SOME OF THE MOST FILMED COUNTRY HOUSES IN BRITAIN...
Chatsworth House, Peak District
Nestling in 1,000 acres of Derbyshire parkland, it’s thought Jane Austen based her idea for Pemberley in her novel Pride and Prejudice on Chatsworth and wrote the story in the nearby town of Bakewell. Chatsworth also featured in the film The Duchess (2008), starring Keira Knightley.
Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire
The birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and a World Heritage Site, the Capability Brown-landscaped gardens have made it the perfect setting for films such as The Young Victoria (2009) and Gulliver’s Travels (2010). It also made an appearance in the Bond movie, Spectre (2015).
Stoke Park, Buckinghamshire
Featuring in box office hits such as James Bond and Bridget Jones, it was on the famous championship golf course that Sean Connery’s 007 took on Goldfinger in cinema’s most famous 18 holes, and where Daniel whisks Bridget Jones away on a romantic mini-break.
Englefield House, Berkshire
This house and gardens served as Miss Havisham’s home in the 2012 adaptation of Great Expectations, starring Helena Bonham Carter. Scenes from The King’s Speech and Woody Allen’s Match Point were also filmed here.
Harewood House, West Yorkshire
Harewood House is another regular on our screens, and it’s easy to see why! Its sweeping lawns, flower-filled terraces and Georgian interiors have acted as the backdrop to TV shows including At Home with the Braithwaites and ITV’s Victoria.
