Robert Thomas Sanders
HUDSON - Robert “Bob” T. Sanders (84) of Hudson, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 5, 2023. He fought leukemia courageously with dignity and grace.
Bob was born to Henry and Emma (nee Boerger) Sanders on January 7, 1939, in Fort Loramie, Ohio. Growing up, he was a talented athlete and student. He excelled at basketball and baseball but was driven by academics. After finishing high school, he earned a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Dayton and embarked on a successful career in manufacturing before retiring as the President of Excel Extrusions.
Bob held many titles in his life; including beloved and devoted husband, uncle, brother, friend and National Guardsman, but his favorite role was that of father and Papa. Nothing in the world could light up his day more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. Somewhat hidden within Bob’s disciplined and steadfast exterior was a warm, compassionate and loving heart. His laugh was contagious, and his smile was easy. He enjoyed traveling, playing tennis and golf. He valued friends immeasurably and was rooted in his Catholic faith.
He met his wife, Marlene (nee Winner) in high school. She was the love of his life for over 59 years. They made each other laugh heartily and often, even in his final days.
He had simple and clear expectations as a father; listen to Mom, go to church, get a job, attend college, do your best and have fun. We were all truly blessed to have him in our lives and will forever remember his example of humility and kindness. His favorite expression was, “It just keeps getting easier!” to remind us that everyday obstacles are short lived and to not lose sight of your blessings and good fortune.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene (nee Winner); children, Stephanie (Andy) Hofner, Matthew (Beth), David (Deidre) and Jonathan (Janie); grandchildren, Emily, Sara, William, Elliott, Heidi, Henry, Frederick, Thomas and Franklin; and sisters Pat (the late Don) Ruhenkamp and Jeanne (Dan) Mescher. Robert was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Emma and brother, Carl Sanders.
The family will receive friends from 4:00pm - 7:00pm on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Johnson-Romito Funeral Home, 19 E. Main Street, Hudson, OH (one block east of the square). A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10:00AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, 340 N. Main Street, Hudson.
