Highland, Medina buzz to victories

Casey Myser and Evan Grant both scored two touchdowns Friday night to power the Hornets (11-2) to a win over the Generals (10-3) in a Division II, Region 6 semifinal at Cedar Point Stadium’s Strobel Field in Sandusky.
Highland advanced to play Avon (13-0) in a regional final on Nov. 17 at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.
Avon recorded a 33-23 win over Olmsted Falls on Friday night.
Medina 21, Cleveland Heights 20
The Bees (10-3) topped the Tigers (11-2) in a low-scoring Division I, Region 1 semifinal at Strongsville’s Pat Catan Stadium after the host Tigers beat the Bees 62-52 in a Week 8 regular-season game on Oct. 6.
Trailing 21-20 with 32 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Greater Cleveland Conference champion Cleveland Heights attempted a two-point conversion that ended with Medina’s Camden Sokolowski making a tackle before the goal line.
The score was tied 7-7 at halftime after Medina quarterback Danny Stoddard threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Austin Knowles in the first quarter and Cleveland Heights quarterback Ammaar Lakes ran for an 8-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Henry Perrymond set up the Tigers TD with a 72yard kickoff return.
Stoddard threw two touchdown passes in the second half, connecting with Knowles on a 20-yard TD pass in the third quarter and Jack Wojciak on a 26-yard TD pass in the fourth quarter.
Cleveland Heights scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Marquise Davis ran for a 25-yard score and Lakes connected with E’mere Atkins on a 48yard score.
Medina advanced to play St. Edward (12-1) in a regional final on Nov. 17 at a site to be determined by the OHSAA.
St. Edward defeated Canton McKinley 41-17 on Friday night.
