2 Streetsboro students charged after stolen firearms recovered

-

Two teens are charged with felonies for allegedly using threats to take several firearms from a Streetsboro home Monday night.

Police Lt. Richard Polivka said Wednesday that the boys, Streetsboro residents ages 15 and 16, are charged as juveniles with first-degree felony robbery and third-degree felony theft and tampering with evidence.

Polivka said a resident of the Camelot Village mobile home park reported discovering Tuesday that someone stole two .40-caliber pistols and a .223 rifle from the home. Polivka said it is now believed that the two boys, while they were at the home Monday with another resident, allegedly used a “threat of force” to take the guns.

Polivka said that around the same time the boys are alleged to have stolen the guns on Monday, officers searched the area after reports of gunshots.

Meanwhile, a trail camera in the backyard of another home recorded three teenage boys carrying guns while walking by Monday evening. The video was posted to a group Facebook page that came to the attention of police. While Polivka said he could not provide all of the details, he said the video “proved to be very helpful to us” in identifying the boys.

The third boy has not been implicated in the theft, but the matter is still under investigation, said Polivka.

According to a joint Facebook post Wednesday from Streetsboro Police and Streetsboro City Schools, the guns were recovered and there is no indication the boys planned to use the weapons to hurt anyone at school or in the community.
