Susan K. Sawyer passed away March 28, 2024 following a long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Anton (Tony) Sawyer, beloved sister, Jennifer Lynn, special cousins, Sharney and Mickey, and lifelong childhood friend, Linda (Lopeman) Waldrop.

She is survived by sister and dearest friend, Rebecca A. Sawyer of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, brother Anton (Buzz) L. Sawyer (Geraldine McWilliams) of Atlanta, GA; her cousins, the Ziegler, Funston, and Taylor families; and the Sawyer clan in California. She will be remembered fondly by many friends, among them, those of her childhood; Pamela Lopeman Capone, Mary Vosburgh Sharnsky and their families, and classmates and long time chums; Susan James Corman, Diane Simonetti Lazzerini, and Donna Lockert Ryckman.

A graduate of Buchtel High School, Class of 1964, Susan attended the University of Akron where was a member of Delta Zeta sorority, and Ohio University. She spent 25 years in the newspaper business (Akron Beacon Journal and Richmond News Leader). After her return from Richmond, VA, she worked at ALLTELL.

Susan loved books, bookstores, and libraries. She was active in the Friends of Main Library, serving as Secretary and Immediate Past President, with many friends among its ranks. To Dr. Greg Manson, the staffs of Western Reserve Infusion Center and Summa Hospice, deepest gratitude for their infinite caring, kindness, and support during Susan’s journey.

Cremation has taken place.

Friends may call at Billow FAIRLAWN Chapel 85 N. Miller Road, Akron, OH, Wednesday, April 24, 4-7 p.m. to celebrate her life, and exchange remembranc­es.
