Ballston Spa to hold hearings on $23.98M school bond vote
Phase III of improvements to schools planned
Ballston Spa Public hearings to explain next month’s $23.98 million bond vote by the Ballston Spa school district have been scheduled.
The Board of Education scheduled the referendum for Oct. 16, which, if approved, would pay for Phase III of the facilities master plan.
Proposed improvements include renovations, beginning with critical health, safety and infrastructure items in the Grove Street section of the Malta Avenue Elementary School as well as the outdated classrooms, bathrooms and locker rooms at the Ballston Spa Middle School, according to the school district.
At the high school, renovations would include replacement of the original cogeneration equipment and related control systems, upgrades to the auditorium and technology classroom access. Athletic improvements include rehabilitation of fields in front of and behind the Middle School, a new multipurpose field on the south end of the campus and a new athletic storage building.
The district will use more than $6.3 million from its capital reserve fund, so the projected net tax impact on the average home assessed at $235,000 is estimated to be an average of $11.60 a year start- ing in 2021.
The community presentations will be at 6:30 p.m. on:
■ Oct. 1, at the Milton Community Center;
■ Oct. 4, at the Ballston Town Hall;
■ Oct. 9, at the Malta Community Center.
Information will also be presented at PTA meetings and available at the Meet the Teacher Nights in all schools.
Voting Oct. 16 is from 7a.m.to9p.m.inthe Ballston Spa High School (residents of the towns of Ballston, Milton and Charlton) and the Malta Town Hall (Malta residents).
