Clockwise from top: The family of the late Amsterdam Police Officer Michael J. Braun Sr. donated a pet oxygen rescue device to the Amsterdam police and fire department­s. Braun’s wife, Carol, daughter Gretchen, and grandchild­ren Mitchell and Lauren Braun made the presentati­on. Officer Braun served the police department for 27½ years, retiring in 1996. He died in August 2010.

JDRF, formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, held its Ride to Cure Diabetes cycling event on Sept. 15 in Saratoga Springs. Included in the more than 500 cyclists were 30 local riders who raised $112,000 while representi­ng the JDRF Northeaste­rn New York chapter.

Timothy Bancroft, center, of Northern Rivers Family of Services in Albany is the winner of the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs Code of Conduct Award. Bancroft focuses on helping children and teens in crisis overcome difficulti­es in a positive and productive way and believes in speaking up for those who cannot speak up on their own, according to the Justice Center.

During the Pioneer Bank Foundation Grand Carnival , bank officials announced a $250,000 donation to fund the newly formed Foundation’s initiative­s. The announceme­nt was applauded by the 800 attendees of the Grand Carnival, the Pioneer Bank Foundation’s first public event. All of the $10,000 in proceeds from the event were donated to the Foundation, a nonprofit entity dedicated to supporting charitable organizati­ons in the Capital Region that provide important services to children and their families related to education, nutrition, clothing, and housing.
