Shiffrin ties Stenmark for career slalom wins

SOLDEU, Andorra — Mikaela Shiffrin climbed higher on the World Cup alltime lists by overtaking Wendy Holdener in the slalom on Saturday.

Shiffrin’s 40th career victory in World Cup slaloms tied Swedish great Ingemar Stenmark’s record for wins in the discipline.

Frida Hansdotter, the 2018 Olympic slalom champ, was fifth in her final World Cup race before retiring. More skiing: Alexis Pinturault became the most prolific French skier in World Cup history, winning a giant slalom for his 23rd victory. Marcel hirscher placed sixth to secure a record eighth straight overall World Cup title.
