Maple weekends on tap this month
The state’s Maple Weekend celebrates the maple season and the rite of spring with activities for the family for two consecutive weekends: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24, and March 30 and 31,
Producers will welcome families to their farms to experience firsthand how real maple syrup and other related maple products are made. Participating farms include Bittersweet Maple, 44 Schanz Lane, Berne; Crosstown Maple, 710 Route 143, Ravena; Mountain Winds Farm, 12 Williamson Road, Berne and Riverside Maple Farms, 7152 Amsterdam Road, Glenville.

Kinderhook presents ‘The Soldier’s Tale’
KINDERHOOK — Concerts in the Village presents Igor Stravinsky’s dramatic masterpiece “The Soldier’s Tale” with narration by international singer Benjamin Luxon on March 23 and 24.
Luxon will be joined by dancer Anni Crofut and the Broad Street Chamber Players. CITV Artistic Director David Smith will conduct.
Performances are 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23 and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24 at Van Buren Hall, 6 Chatham St. (Route 9) in Kinderhook. Contribution $20. Students and children free. Henry Johnson award deadline
ALBANY — Nominations are being taken for the third annual Henry Johnson Award for Distinguished Community Service, bestowed upon an Albany resident who has made meaningful contributions to the our city community.
The deadline to send in names is 5 p.m. April

RPI hosting science and engineering fair
TROY — About 200 middle and high school students from the Greater Capital Region will participate in the 29th annual Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair on Saturday in the Walker Laboratories and Sage Hall at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Students do original STEM research. Some students have received patents on their research. This is a regional fair for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.
A documentary about the fair, called “Science Fair,” won awards at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival.
Projects will be available to view from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
