Club’s focus is Moby Dick novel
ALBANY — The Historic Albany Foundation, Discover Albany and the New York State Writers Institute, celebrate Herman Melville’s 200th birthday, with White Whale Wednesdays at the Albany Pump Station.
Members will commit to completing the novel over six months.
Dates are April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, Aug. 14 and Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m. With the lecture/show and tell at 6:30 p.m.
The club will chat for an hour with a local Melville enthusiast over a pint and then enjoy a Melville/ Moby Dick-centered program. $5 for foundation members and $10 general public per night.
Birdhouse contest entries due April 14
BALLSTON SPA — Birdhouse entries are due April 14 to the Ballston Spa Public Library, 21 Milton Road, for the Ballston Spa Birdhouse Celebration.
Best of the entries will be awarded prizes at the Second Annual Village of Ballston Spa Birdhouse Festival on May 4 in Wiswall Park on Front Street.
Birdhouses built within guidelines will be mounted along the half-mile Tedisco Trail. For entry forms go to https://www.ballston.org.
Re-enactor talks about WWI nurses
COXSACKIE — The Greene County Historical Society present its annual Olga Santora Women’s History Series at 2 p.m Sunday, March 24, featuring historical re-enactor Maxine Getty.
Getty will present, “World War I Nurses,” portraying Maj. Julia Stimson, known for her dedication to nursing and her organizational skills.
The program will be held in the reading room of the Greene County Historical Society’s Vedder Research Library on the grounds of the Bronck Museum, Route 9W.
The program is free but donations will be accepted in support of the Beecher Scholarship.
