Children’s center closing wrong-headed

- Mary Ann Matthews Jones West Sand Lake

It was announced that the Samaritan-rensselaer Children’s Center will be closing its doors Sept. 3. The impact of this decision by St. Peter’s Health Partners (Trinity Health) comes with great sadness for hundreds of children, families, staff and administrators.

We are sad. I am heartbroken. I am angry as well. Such a long history of quality service to the community is ending. We all have been encouraged with love, kindness, wisdom and knowledge over these 30-plus years.

St. Peter’s Health Partners, for what seems to be its own financial gain, has robbed the community of Troy and beyond the benefit of the values that have long been the under-p inning of Samaritan rensselaer Children’ s Center. St. Peter’ s Health Partners, in its short-sightedness, has made a wrong decision. There is desperate need for the high-quality child care that has lifted Samaritan rensselaer Children’ s Center to its high esteem throughout the Capital Region.
