Stabbing suspect in police custody

ALBANY — A 35-yearold Albany man has been charged in connection with a stabbing Thursday evening on Lincoln Avenue.

At about 4 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to the area of Lincoln Avenue and West Lawrence Street for reports of an assault and located a 58-year-old man with a serious cut to the arm.

The suspect, Aliston Simon, was quickly apprehende­d, police said.

The victim was treated at the scene by Albany firefighte­rs/paramedics and transporte­d to Albany Medical Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Simon has been charged with attempted murder.

Not guilty plea in motel homicide

BALLSTON SPA — The man accused of fatally stabbing another man this spring in a South Glens

Fall motel has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and other charges. Authoritie­s say Juan A. Vazquez, 46, of Saratoga Avenue, South Glens Falls is accused of killing Kenny J. Shipski Jr., 30, also of South Glens Falls, at the Clear View.

Vazquez was arrested April 11. He is also charged with tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a controlled substance, police and Saratoga County prosecutor­s said.

After the not guilty plea Friday he was returned to jail without bail. Shipski was found dead on a Saturday morning in a room of the motel on Saratoga Avenue. Police at the time of the arrest said Shipski had multiple stab wounds.

Cairo man accused of attempted murder

CAIRO — A Greene County man is charged with attempted murder after he stabbed another man in the upper torso/ neck, State Police said Friday.

At about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, troopers responded to Grove Street in the town of Cairo for a report of a stabbing. When troopers arrived, an officer from the town of Cairo Police Department had Ebral Woullard, 25, of Cairo in custody. Police said Woullard stabbed Luis Francisco Paqui Guaman, 25, of Middletown, who was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital, treated and released.

Woullard was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon, also a felony, and the misdemeano­r of resisting arrest. He was arraigned and jailed without bail.

Drunken driving blamed in crash

QUEENSBURY — A Hudson Falls man was drunk when he crossed into the opposite lane on Route 149 in Queensbury and crashed into another car, sending two people to the hospital, Warren County deputies said Saturday.

Just after 2 a.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s office received a call about the crash and later determined a Ford F250 pickup was traveling east when it crossed over the double solid lines and collided with a Chevrolet Equinox going west. The driver and a passenger of the Chevrolet were taken to Glens Falls Hospital with minor injuries.

Deputies said the driver of the pickup, Dustin M. Cleveland, 22, was intoxicate­d and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicate­d along with other traffic citations and released until his next court date.
