Thank you to supporters of county Clean Air Act
Many thanks to Albany County Executive Dan Mccoy who recently signed into law the Albany County Clean Air Act. In making this critical and bold decision, Mccoy proved to be a wise leader with the courage to stand up against the pressures of corporate power and in so doing, did what is in the best interests of Albany County residents. Passage of the Albany County Clean Air Act will protect generations of children and adults from the toxic health effects of the burning of tires and waste that would have been allowed to be produced by the Lafargeholcim Corporation in Ravena and the deadly burning of firefighting foam by Norlite Company in Cohoes. Both companies stood to rake in big profits and thus was their intense push for defeat of the Albany County Clean Air Act. Thanks also goes to the ground-swell of Albany County citizens who passionately spoke at public hearings, emailed, sent letters and telephoned Mccoy and legislators urging them to sign the act. Thirty-two legislators voted in favor of the act
in contrast to the only seven legislators who voted against it. Ongoing citizen engagement combined with acts of integrity by courageous leaders is so desperately needed in order for life on Earth to not only survive but thrive. The coming together of people to urge the passage of the Albany County Clean
Air provides hopeful evidence of what our people power can accomplish, now, and every day forward.
