Chatham captures showdown

Carroll’s goal the difference in a battle against Maple Hill

In a battle of Patroon Conference girls’ soccer unbeatens, Anna Carroll scored the game’s lone goal in the 20th minute to lead Chatham to a 1-0 win over Maple Hill on Saturday at Chatham.

Haley Pulver made four saves to earn the shutout for the Panthers, who improved to 5-0 on the season.

Mia Fleck made five saves for Maple Hill, which droppped to 3-1.

More girls’ soccer: Bella Tronco scored in the first half and Vivian Nartley added an insurance goal in the second half as Shaker (3-0-1) remained undefeated with a 2-0 home win over Niskayuna.

Boys’ soccer: Michael Puccioni scored two goals to lift Niskayuna to a 2-0 victory over visiting Shaker in a Suburban Council contest. Puccioni’s first goal came early, at the five-minute mark, and he added the second in the final minute of the game to complete the brace for the Silver Warriors. Malcolm Robinson made four saves for Shaker.

Boys’ cross country: Evan Williams of CBA finished first in 15 minutes, 24 seconds on the 2.6mile course at Capital Hills Golf Course in Albany as the Brothers topped Albany 21-38 and Colonie 18-45. The Brothers remain undefeated at 6-0. Jack Mangione of CBA (16:20) and Santino Martinelli of Albany (16:21) rounded out the top three.

Girls’ cross country: Schuylervi­lle nipped rival Scotia, 27-29, in a Foothills clash. Alayna Wian of Schuylervi­lle finished with a top time of 18:50. Scotia’s Delaney Krogh was second with a time of 19:06 and Megan Vianese of Schuylervi­lle placed third in 19:10.
