Letter writer wrong to dictate use of ‘hero’ President Trump deserved the virus

- Gregory Menard Albany

In response to the letter “‘Hero’ should be a term for those who truly are,” Sept. 27, regarding use of the term, “hero,” I’ll say that I work in a nursing home and don’t consider myself a hero. This year has been hard on a lot of people, those who lost jobs and those who had to continue to go to work despite being told day and night that there was a life-threatening virus afoot. I was not able to “stay home and stay safe” as I’ve heard it often said, I’ve been going to work and doing my job, taking care of sick and elderly while wearing personal protective equipment and a face mask. Working a whole shift while doing a physical job and wearing a face mask hasn’t been easy.

I rarely take exception to Casey Seiler’s writings, but I must on his take that President Donald Trump does not deserve to get the COVID-19 virus (”He doesn’t deserve this virus,” Oct. 4). I am no fan of Trump and never have been, even before he entered politics. In my opinion, he is an awful person, a con man and a crook. Based on that, I would not feel that he deserves to be infected by COVID-19. Con men and criminals should be punished but not tortured by a disease like COVID-19. Trump , however, had many chances to be a leader and control this disease. Instead he minimized it and played it down for political reasons. More than 200,000 citizens of our country have died (still counting). His continual condescending views of people wearing masks led to many of his followers refusing to wear masks as well as politicians in some states refusing to implement mask wearing. He held many large rallies and other large group events with no masks or social distancing. The most recent resulted in the infection of many people as well as himself. I am sorry to disagree with Seiler, but Trump deserved this virus, he earned it.
