Shen boys land No. 1 soccer seed

Come-from-behind win vs. Burnt Hills locks up top spot

Darien Espinal scored two goals and Brandon Barrett added a goal and an assist as the Shenendeho­wa boys’ soccer team rallied to beat host Burnt Hills 3-1 on Saturday and claim the top seed in the upcoming Suburban Council Tournament.

CBA could have clinched the top seed, but Guilderlan­d beat the Brothers 3-2 on Friday.

Park Scott scored on a penalty kick late in the first half to give Burnt Hills a 1-0 lead at halftime.

Espinal tied the game early in the second half when he headed in a cross from Barrett.

Barrett gave Shenendeho­wa the lead soon after when he knocked a rebound off Mark Makhatadze’s shot.

Espinal scored an insurance goal later in the half.

The Suburban Council Tournament begins Tuesday.

More boys’ soccer: Evan Nowak and Iddrisu Haruna scored for Schenectad­y as the Patriots topped Columbia 2-1 at home. Nelson Htoo scored for the Blue Devils.

Girls’ soccer: Kayla Novak scored the lone goal off an assist from Abbie Irons as Colonie beat Troy 1-0 in a Suburban Council game. Emma

York made one save to earn the shutout. Sydney Kimball made 16 stops for Troy. ... Columbia cruised to a 9-0 victory over Schenectad­y in another Suburban Council contest. The Blue Devils had nine different goal scorers on the way to the win.

Girls’ cross country: Shaker nipped Shenendeho­wa, 25-30, in a 2.5-mile race at the Crossings of Colonie park. Shaker’s Leonni Griffin took first place with a time of 15 minutes, 2.6 seconds. Griffin’s teammate Kaleigh Higgins (15:19.0) was second and Luccabella Hotaling (15:23.2) of Shenendeho­wa placed third.
