He’s moving on

News anchor Jim Kambrich is leaving WNYT to move to New York City.

Albany Jim Kambrich, a longtime news anchor at WNYT, is leaving the station. His last day will be Dec. 4.

The 63-year-old made the announcement on Friday’s evening broadcast.

Kambrich’s wife, Susan, recently accepted a position as the executive director of Twin Parks Montessori on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. She previously served for more than two decades as the head of Woodland Hill Montessori School in North Greenbush.

The couple’s grown daughters, Katie and Caroline, will each be only an hour’s train ride away once Kambrich moves to New York City.

“It feels exciting that I am going to go on, and will be able to have the time to explore other things,” the anchor said. “I have other interests outside of broadcasting — golfing, fishing, hiking, traveling.” (The traveling, he noted, will wait until the pandemic subsides.)

Kambrich currently co-anchors Newschannel 13 Live at 5 with Elaine Houston, Live at 6 with Benita Zahn and Live at 11 with Karen Tararache as well as Newschannel 13 Live at 9 on My4 Albany. He’s also a general assignment reporter.

He’s one of the longesttenured on-air staffers at WNYT. “I feel very fortunate to have worked at 13 for so many years,” Kambrich says. “It’s always had a great esprit de corps — that’s why I stayed there for so long. I’ve worked with great people, past and present.”
