Hope for Biden policies to favor mainstream Trump supporters should consider what has he done

-

The election is over, the pandemic rages and the economy will take a nosedive as businesses close. What is our illustrious president doing? Nothing. President Donald Trump is acting like a spoiled child who didn't get his way and just can't face that he lost the election.

Trump continues to falsely claim he was cheated, and he continues to fire and belittle brave staffers who dare speak or act contrary to him. He replaces these people with sycophants while Republican senators kowtow to him.

It's time the polarization and tribalism that Trump created ends. We are better than this. We owe it to our children and grandchildren. We owe it to the brave men and women who fought for our country, especially to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We owe it to the medical profession heroes who labor tirelessly, and in danger, treating COVID-19 patients. We owe it to every law-abiding, hard-working American.

Politics needs to stop being a competition between “us and them” and more about what is best for our country. It should not be “party over people” as has been the case since Barack Obama was first elected president and Senate Majority Leader Mitch Mcconnell famously stated his primary goal for the country was to make Obama a one-term president.

President-elect Joe Biden will have a difficult time putting policies in place with a divided Congress. Hopefully, Senate Republicans will work with him to create policies and programs that are favorable to mainstream America and not to the far left or the far right. We can only hope that's the case.

As one who has voted in more elections than I care to remember, I can safely say that I have never voted for any party. Across the board, I have always voted for the candidate and ideas across the board. I have split my ticket more often than not.

If the very worst case scenario occurs, aside from the fact that the virus is decimating our nation while the sitting president plays golf, the responsibility lies squarely on President Donald Trump's shoulders.

Also, like 9/11, what if we were attacked, here or abroad? Our men and women in harm's way, many who may lose their lives, aren’t thinking of themselves as Republicans or Democrats. They are Americans. At what point does our outgoing administration remember that? They are not royalty, they are employees of a nation — a nation that just had the largest, most transparent election in our nation's history.

Americans have spoken. Trump lost the privilege to lead our nation. Unfortunately, America first means nothing to Trump. It’s Trump first or nothing.
