VISION OF THE SEASON
Area students can show their artistic talent in our annual Holiday Card Contest.
It’s time for students in grades K-12 to submit their most creative entries to our annual Holiday Card Contest./
As we come to the close of 2020 — finally! Right? We’re all thinking it — the Times Union features team thought back on our achievements, but also on what we could not do in this pandemic year.
One event we dearly missed is the annual Circles of Caring wreath contests. Traditionally, we would have started asking for folks to conceptualize and create artificial wreaths that we would then donate to groups in need, helping to spread a little more holiday cheer. We’ve always been floored by folks’ creativity and generosity when it came to the time and effort put into these pieces. We can’t wait to bring it back in
2021.
That said, we’re still holding on to a fan (and artist) favorite: our annual Holiday Card Contest.
Area K-12 students can now send their most-creative holiday visions. The artists can use traditional or computer-assisted techniques. The illustrations must not exceed 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Any collages must be flat, without raised surfaces. Winners from each grade will be published in Unwind on Sunday, Dec. 20, and at timesunion.com. The grand prize winner’s image will appear on the Times Union’s front page on Christmas Day.
Entries, due Monday, Dec. 14, must include the artist’s name, age, grade, school and a parent/guardian/teacher’s number. All entries are property of the newspaper and won’t be returned. Mail entries to: Times Union Holiday Card Contest, P.O. Box 15000, Albany, N.Y. 12212.
Usually we would say yes to hand-delivered cards, but COVID-19 restrictions mandate otherwise. This year, we will take emailed high-resolution photos of cards, as long as the same standards apply and the same type of information is given with each submission.
We will scan each submission and put them together in an online gallery. For questions, email managing editor Gary Hahn at ghahn@timesunion.com.
