Hammond powers Monmouth past Marist

Deion Hammond scored 21 points as Monmouth defeated Marist, 80-64, on Saturday in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men’s basketball clash in West Long Branch, N.J.

Melik Martin had 12 points for Monmouth (4-4, 4-3). Marcus Mcclary added nine points and 10 rebounds.

Hakim Byrd had 15 points for the Red Foxes (6-3, 4-3). Ricardo Wright added 12 points. Jordan Jones had 12 points and nine rebounds.

Manhattan 45, Quinnipiac 42: Samir Stewart came off the bench and led his team in scoring with eight points to help lift Manhattan to a win over Quinnipiac. Ebube Ebube had nine rebounds for Manhattan (3-4, 2-4). Jacob Rigoni and Tyrese Williams each scored nine for the Bobcats (3-3, 1-1). Rigoni also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Niagara 66, Rider 55: Kobi Nwandu had a seasonhigh 21 points as Niagara topped Rider. Marcus Hammond had 12 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for Niagara (5-5, 4-4). Dwight Murray Jr. had 17 points and seven rebounds for the Broncs (3-8, 3-5).

America East

Umass Lowell 71, Hartford 62: Obadiah Noel scored 24 points as Umass Lowell defeated Hartford. Connor Withers added 20 points for the River Hawks. Withers also had nine rebounds. Salif Boudie had 19 points for Umass Lowell (4-7, 3-4). Miroslav Stafl had 16 points for the Hawks (7-5, 4-3).

UMBC 69, New Hampshire 54: L.J. Owens posted 17 points as UMBC defeated New Hampshire. Owens made 4-of-6 3-pointers. Brandon Horvath had 13 points for UMBC (8-2, 4-1), which earned its fifth straight road victory. Blondeau Tchoukuien­go had 10 points for the Wildcats (4-4, 3-2).

Vermont 76, Binghamton 60: Ryan Davis had 25 points and 11 rebounds as Vermont topped Binghamton. Stef Smith had 16 points for Vermont (4-3, 4-3). Isaiah Powell, from Colonie, added 14 points. Brenton Mills had 16 points for the Bearcats (1-9, 1-6).

NJIT 63, Maine 54: Dylan O’hearn had 22 points as NJIT beat Maine. O’hearn made 4 of 6 3-pointers. San Antonio Brinson had 12 points and eight rebounds for NJIT (4-3, 3-2). Zach Cooks added seven rebounds. Lechaun Duhart had 18 points for the Black Bears (1-5, 1-4).

Women MAAC

Quinnipiac 55, St. Peter’s 40: Quinnipiac picked up its second straight victory, topping rival St. Peter’s in Jersey City, N.J. The Bobcats held a 42-33 advantage heading into the fourth quarter, where they put the game away outscoring the Peacocks, 13-7, to earn the win. Mikala Morris scored 18 points and pulled down 18 rebounds and Mackenzie Dewees added 13 points and nine boards to lead Quinnipiac (5-4, 3-2). Taiah Thornton had 18 points and nine rebounds for St. Peter’s (5-7, 4-3).

Marist 52, Manhattan 44: Marist defeated Manhattan in Poughkeeps­ie. Allie Best had 17 to lead the Red Foxes (6-1, 4-1). Pamela Miceus scored 11 for the Jaspers (5-4, 5-2).

America East

Umass Lowell 81, Hartford 45: Umass Lowell coasted to a victory over host Hartford. The Hawks jumped out to a 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter but the River Hawks’ offense erupted in the second and third periods, outscoring Hartford 49-15, to take control of the game. Kharis Idom scored 18 and Tiahna Sears added 17 points for Umass Lowell. Paula Maurina and Jada Lucas both had a team-best 11 points for Hartford.

Maine 77, NJIT 60: Maine climbed to 7-1 overall rolling to a win against NJIT. The Bears, who also improved to 4-1 in the league, played their first home game of the season after playing their first seven games on the road. Blanca Millan dropped in 24 and Anne Simon chipped in with 22 points for Maine. Ellyn Stoll scored 18 for NJIT (2-9, 2-5).
