— Howard P. Acker, 75, passed away on January 5, 2021, at the Culpeper Hospital after struggling with COPD complicate­d by COVID-19.

Howard was a disabled Army veteran, serving six years which included two tours in Vietnam and being exposed to Agent Orange which impacted his health. He was a member of Nassau Hose Company in the ’70s and ’80s and drove ambulance for the Nassau Rescue

Squad. He worked as a transmissi­on mechanic and then as a miller for Cargill Flour Milling. He retired from Horizon Milling in Culpeper, Va. He was a hard-worker, enjoyed reading books, building bonfires and making birdhouses to give away. Above all, his little family was most important to him and he loved when the kids and their friends would gather at his home. His funny sense of humor and his laugh will be missed by family and friends.

Howard was predecease­d by his parents, Leon and Beatrice (Pitt) Acker; sisters, Frances and Priscilla; and brothers, Mike, Tom and Dennis. A beloved husband, father and grandfathe­r, Howard is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Acker; sons, Brian Acker (Nicole), Robert Walker and "son" Rob Kloby; daughter Colleen Barber; grandchild­ren, Frank and Mckenzie Rychcik, Lily and Emma Walker and his special buddy Bryce Acker; mother and father-in-law, Mary and Donald Martin; and special sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Bruce Weidman. He is also survived by sisters, Arlene, Nichole, Brenda, Linda and Lori; half-brother Raymond Acker; stepbrothe­r Henry Miller; and many nieces, nephews and very dear friends.

Per his wishes, he was cremated and there will be no gravesite or services.
