Thomas Cole site offers art lectures
CATSKILL — Thomas Cole Site’s annual “Sunday Salons” series will resume for its 18th year Sunday, Jan. 17, via Zoom.
The series connects the life and work of the artist Thomas Cole (1801-1848), founder of the nation’s first major art movement now known as the Hudson River School, to our contemporary moment. Talks will stream live at 2 p.m. The schedule:
Sunday, Jan. 17, “Historic Interiors Expert and Design Detective,” Jean Dunbar reveals a new discovery in the story behind Cole’s interior designs at Thomas Cole National Historic Site.
Feb. 7, Elon Cook Lee, founder, Liberation Heritage Consulting and director of interpretation and education, National Trust for Historic Preservation, will discuss historic sites across the country and the development of slavery programs that center on Black humanity.
March 14, Nancy Siegel, professor of art history, Towson University and co-curator of “Remember the Ladies: Women of the Hudson River School” will speak about 19th century women American landscape artists in the context of nationalism, identity and nature.
April 11, Judith Enck, president, Beyond Plastics and former EPA regional administrator will discuss environmentalism in the region today and her work that pairs experience of environmental policy with the energy and creativity of college students
