Clark, Sue Ruth
TROY — Sue Ruth Clark, 94 of Troy, died on January 21, 2021.
Sue advocated for causes that she felt her generation owed to future generations, including worldwide nuclear disarmament and racial justice. Throughout her life, she supported numerous organizations working toward the greater good in the world. For years Sue participated in Wednesday vigils at the New York State Capitol, handing out leaflets about peace and justice on the corner of State and Eagle. She committed herself to organizations such as Grannies for Peace that engaged with the public and legislators to support local and global initiatives, to clean up after the effects of wars, and to help community groups resolve conflict. Sue pursued peace of the heart with all those graced with the time to be with her. Her spiritual community was spiritual community was centered with the Quakers at the Albany Friends Meeting, the Religious Society of Friends. Sue’s and husband Marvin’s care for children extended to the creation of an annual week-long peace camp for youth based at the Albany Friends Meeting House.
Sue had a keen appreciation for all forms of nature, enjoying gnarled trunks of trees, clear streams over rocks, and flowers of all kinds, great and small. She traveled with Marvin to the north of Norway, where she lived for weeks in a cabin, to view the northern lights in arctic winter. Daily she walked outside and found bits of nature to appreciate up close, admiring the finest veins in a leaf, the curious stages of a hydrangea blossom. Working with her hands she created wonderful meals, inviting grandchildren to learn the secrets of biscuits or pie crusts. She carved wood canes along the natural curvature of saplings, and tended to plants in sunsplashed windows. Her care for life extended deep into the lives of those around her, as she actively listened to their stories and counseled quietly, helping a person find their inner light, and encouraging each to launch back out and thrive in their world. Sue provided both energy and a calm listening ear to those who touched her life. Sue formed strong friendships in a Tai Chi class that she attended for more than a decade, and during early morning swims in Lake George at Silver Bay.
Sue, the only child of Russell Moore and Eunice Oliver Moore, obtained a degree in sociology at the University of Texas, where she met and married George Marvin Clark Jr., the son of George Marvin Clark Sr. and Ruth Mallory Clark, on June 4, 1947. Sue was born in Orange, Texas on November 30, 1926, and grew up in
Fort Worth, Texas. She provided home and support to her surviving children: Linda P., Russell S., Rex M., Lee M., and Dan L.; and associated pairs of grandchildren: Jonathan and David, Leanne and Andrea, Zane and Eli, Jenna and Melissa, and Joshua and Ben. She is also survived by two greatgrandchildren, Clark Duffy and Zoe Boehlke.
