Burns overcomes delay at wind-swept Riviera
LOS ANGELES — Sam Burns had a two-shot lead over Matt Fitzpatrick when play was halted by darkness following a four-hour wind delay Saturday at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera.
The third round is scheduled to be completed Sunday
morning at 9:45 a.m. ahead of the final 18 holes.
Horse racing: In the richest horse race in the world, the $20 million Saudi Cup, 4-year-old colt Mishriff passed Charlatan in the stretch to pull the upset by about a length. Charlatan, trained by Bob Baffert, finished second to earn $3.5 million. Great Scott was third, followed by Knicks
Go. The only other U.S. horse, Tacitus, finished seventh of 14.
Skiing: Mikaela Shiffrin had her winning streak in slalom at world championships ended by Katharina Liensberger as the title returned to Austria after 10 years. Shiffrin had to settle for bronze, her fourth medal at these worlds. It made her only the fifth female skier to win four medals at one worlds. Petra Vlhova of Slovakia won the silver medal.
Soccer: Everton deepened Liverpool’s Premier League title defense woes by winning at Anfield for the first time since 1999, a 2-0 triumph that consigned the champions to a fourth successive home loss for the first time in 98 years. The loss drops Liverpool 16 points behind leader Manchester City . ... Real Madrid won 1-0 at Valladolid for its fourth consecutive win, while Atletico Madrid lost points for the second straight match in a 2-0 home loss against Levante that ended its 11-game unbeaten streak in the Spanish league.
