Eager, articulate and 100
Albert R. Vineberg, a former Albany resident who lives in Boynton Beach, Fla., turns 100 years old Sunday,
Feb. 28. It’s a birthday to be celebrated with little fanfare due to pandemic restrictions, says his family.
Born and raised in Albany, he graduated college in New York City in advertising, served in World War II, married and raised his family in Albany until he and his beloved wife of 64 years , Doris, retired to Florida. In younger days, the area’s newest centenarian, who is now a widower, worked for The Times Union for many years when it was on Sheridan Avenue and at its current location in Colonie as sales department supervisor. He then was offered the job of advertising director of the northeast zone for Sears when they set up at Colonie Center.
“He has not missed a beat,” his daughter says. “He is incredibly articulate with a vivid memory, sense of humor and eagerness to listen to others. He is and always has been a well informed consumer on many subjects. He is an avid preventionist, which could explain why he is about to welcome 100 years on this earth in a healthy way.”
He’ll be moving back to the area toward the end of March.
What does Albert attribute his longevity to when asked?
“Everything in moderation” and “attitude is everything” and “nothing is 100 percent!”
