Son of Al Leiter tosses no-hitter for Vanderbilt
Top draft prospect Jack Leiter pitched a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts for Vanderbilt on Saturday.
Leiter, the son of former Mets and Yankees pitcher Al Leiter, walked Braylen Wimmer to lead off the game but was perfect the rest of the way in a 5-0 victory over South Carolina. The sophomore struck out Wimmer swinging at a 96 mph fastball to end the game, his 124th pitch. The right-hander improved to 5-0 with a 0.31 ERA in five starts.
College football: Reece Udinski connected with Jakob Herres in overtime and then Michael Jackson for a twopoint conversion, giving VMI a 38-37 victory over Samford for its first 4-0 start since 1981.
