HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL ROUNDUP Schalmont tops Niskayuna 27-13

Trent Randle rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another to lead Schalmont to a 27-13 road win at Niskayuna on Saturday in a nonleague football clash.

Randle’s second 1-yard touchdown run gave the Sabres a 20-13 lead and came as a result of the turning point of the game. The Sabres elected to have Niskayuna rekick after the second half kickoff went out of the bounds and Darius Green took the ensuing kick 71 yards to the Niskayuna 9-yard line. Randle scored several plays later.

The Silver Warriors built a 13-0 lead on two short touchdown runs by Cole Wade. Schalmont trimmed the deficit when Randle found Ethan Coom for a 30-yard touchdown toss. He ran in his first touchdown to give Schalmont a 14-13 lead at the half.

Niskayuna twice had chances to tie the game, but could not capitalize. One Silver Warriors drive started at midfield with 8:16 to play, but a pass was deflected and intercepte­d by Cole Contompasi­s. Niskayuna got the ball back after Thomas Titsworth picked off Randle with 4:53 to play, but the drive stalled near midfield on 4th and 2.

Facing 3rd and 2 with 2:09 to play, Randle used his legs to pick up the first down. He scored his third touchdown with six seconds to play to seal the win.

Class AA Schenectad­y 28, Bethlehem 7:

Chris Davis scored three touchdowns to lead the Patriots to the win. Bethlehem held a 7-6 halftime advantage before Davis put Schenectad­y in front to stay with an 8-yard TD run in the third quarter. Davis capped his strong performanc­e with two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Shaker 49, Saratoga Springs 0:

The Blue Bison improved to 3-0 with the blowout road win over rival Saratoga Springs. Shaker rolled out to a 28-0 halftime lead and never looked back on the way to the victory. Porter Ninstant had two rushing touchdowns to lead the Blue Bison’s offense.

Class A Mohonasen 40, Scotia 0:

The Mighty Warriors picked up their first win of the season against host Scotia on Saturday afternoon. Mohonasen jumped out to a 13-0 firstquart­er lead and coasted to the win to move to 1-2 on the season. The Mighty Warriors had lost to Niskayuna and Ballston Spa before rolling to the victory.

Class B Hudson 30, Holy Trinity 0:

Caleb Romano threw three touchdown passes and the Hudson defense held the Holy Trinity offense off the scoreboard to pick up the 30-point victory. Isaiah Maines broke a 17-yard TD run and Maines later hauled in a Romano pass to take a 23-0 advantage into the halftime break. In the third quarter, Kasey Moore caught Romano’s third TD pass of the afternoon.

Class C

Mechanicvi­lle 20, Fonda

10: The Red Raiders climbed to 2-1 on the season with the win over the host Braves. Fonda took a 10-6 lead into halftime but Mechanicvi­lle responded with 14 unanswered secondhalf points to come away with the win. Luciano D’ambro finished with 246 yards of offense, including a 48-yard TD run and two touchdown passes, to lead the Red Raiders. Kyle Johnson hauled in a 54-yard pass for a score and Mason Angiano had a 40-yard TD catch for Mechanicvi­lle.

Class D

Chatham 26, Voorheesvi­lle 6: Gage Nelson returned a fumble for a touchdown and Matt Radley rushed for another long score to lead Chatham. Tyler Kneller passed to Mike Lynch for a 28-yard touchdown in the second. Alex Sapienza had a 39-yard touchdown run for the Blackbirds.

Nonleague

Lake George/hadley-luzerne 54, Cairo-durham/ Catskill 8: Lake George kept its perfect record intact with the win over visiting Cairo-durham/ Catskill.
