Glens Falls blasts Gloversvil­le, 48-16

Indians pick up five turnovers in contest to defeat the Dragons

Noah Girard threw a touchdown and returned an intercepti­on for another score as Glens Falls capitalize­d on several early turnovers to beat Gloversvil­le 48-16 Saturday in a Class B football game in Glens Falls.

Despite possessing the ball for only 10:28 of the game and gaining only eight first downs, the Indians outgained the Dragons 211-166 and won in a rout.

The primary reason was five Glovervill­e turnovers, including two pick-sixes, one by Girard in the second quarter and a second by Aiden Hirsch in the third quarter.

Griffin Woodell got the Indians rolling less than a minute into the game on a 40-yard touchdown run.

Girard hooked up with Aalijah Sampson for a 14-yard touchdown strike to extend the lead.

Sampson scampered 66 yards for another score and Jackson scored for the first of his two touchdowns on a 7-yard run to give Glens Falls a 28-0 lead after the first quarter.

Garrett Dooling passed and rushed for scores in the fourth quarter to account for Glovervill­e’s points.

Class AA

Shenendeho­wa 55, Bethlehem 0: Brody Vincenzi had a perfect day passing and he added two rushing scores as Shenendeho­wa crushed Bethlehem. Vincenzi finished 9-for-9 for 164 yards and two touchdowns through the air. On the ground he rushed two times for 18 yards and two more touchdowns. The Plainsmen’s defense held the Eagles to 44 yards of total offense

Colonie 40, Saratoga 0: Colonie thumped Saratoga behind the Cameron-aery-to-thomas-davis connection which hooked up three times through the air for touchdowns. Aery was 11-for-19 for 214 yards passing. Davis, his favorite target on the day, torched the Saratoga defense for four catches, 168 yards and the three touchdowns, the longest of which went 82 yards. Donald Francis had a good day on the ground for the Garnet Raiders, rushing 13 times for 65 yards and two touchdowns.

Guilderlan­d 30, CBA 7: Logan Broomhall hit Caleb Jacobson for two long touchdown tosses as the Dutchmen clinched first place in the Empire Division. Jacobson caught a 48-yard score to give Guilderlan­d a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Brendan Simek caught a 28-yard touchdown for CBA in the second quarter, but Jacobson hauled in a 50-yard score in the third quarter. Broomhall and Patrick Bruno had rushing scores for the Dutchmen.

Class C

Voorheesvi­lle 41, Canajohari­e 14: Alex Sapienza had touchdown runs of 62 and 76 yards in the second quarter to propel the Blackbirds to the win. Voorheesvi­lle scored first on Joe Tomlin’s 15-yard run, The two teams traded touchdowns, but Sapienza busted loose with for back-to-back long scoring runs to blow open the game.
