Woman in her 50s dies of COVID
Albany County’s death toll now stands at 386
The pandemic may be waning, but the deaths from COVID -19 are not stopping.
Albany County officials said Saturday that a woman in her 50s died on Friday, the 386th person to succumb to the virus since the outbreak began here 15 months ago.
There were also five new cases confirmed Friday, bringing the total known to have been infected in the county to 24,398, County Executive Dan Mccoy said in a statement Saturday.
Three of the new cases had close contact to positive cases and two did not have a clear source of infection. There were no new hospitalizations overnight. Three county residents are hospitalized from the virus. One patient is in the ICU.
“In spite of our continued efforts to get everyone vaccinated, another Albany County woman has lost her life to this virus,” Mccoy said. “My condolences go out to her family and the families of the other 385 Albany County residents who died from COVID -19. Vaccination shots are our best protection and we must encourage those who haven’t gotten a shot to do so.”
