Man shot; police still investigating

- By News staff

Troy A man was shot in the leg and arm in a latenight incident Friday, according to Troy police.

Troy police said in a news release that multiple 911 calls came in shortly after 11:30 p.m. reporting a fight on Broadway between Second and Third streets. While police were en route to the location, responding officers received an update about a call reporting that shots had been fired.

Patrol officers arriving at the scene began looking for any victims or suspects among the many witnesses. They found one adult male victim a few blocks away and provided emergency medical treatment to him until members of the Troy Fire Department arrived. The man was taken to an area hospital after receiving treatment at the scene.

Police noted that while they were aiding the victim, multiple bystanders began crowding the officers. Other police agencies were called to assist with crowd control in the downtown area while Troy police continued to investigate the incident.

Police report that they recovered a handgun from underneath a parked vehicle in the area of the shooting, and detectives who responded to the scene are continuing to investigate.

A number of witnesses were interviewed at the scene and interviews will continue in the coming days, police said.

Police have already collected video evidence from local businesses, private residences and the city surveillance camera system. They also believe it is likely that photos and videos made by witnesses with smartphones may exist and encourage members of the community to share any evidence they may have of the incident.
