Garden tour Aug. 7 in Schenectady's Stockade

-

The Stockade Association will host its annual garden tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 7. Advance tickets are $20.

The tour includes 10 private gardens normally hidden from public view. This year’s tour also includes the gardens beside two historic churches and two public gardens.

The association distributed zinnia seeds earlier this year and encouraged Stockade residents to plant them in sunny locations and containers to welcome visitors.

“The Garden Tour is a wonderful, fun way to see how creative urban gardeners work their magic in the Stockade’s beautiful historic settings,” said Suzy Unger, association president.

In addition to plants, each garden will feature artwork by students from the Carriage House Artists of Living Resources, a regional nonprofit organization serving people with intellectual/developmental disabilities or brain trauma, and their families. Each piece was curated to complement the garden where it will be displayed. The artwork ranges from abstract to realism and uses vibrant colors and form to interpret nature.

The tour will be held rain or shine. In case of rain, the art will be on display in sheltered locations along the route.

Tickets are available online and in person (cash or check) at the Schenectady County Historical Society, 32 Washington Ave., Schenectady; Faddegon’s Nursery, 1140 Troy Schenectady
