■ INTERNATIO­NAL STEM COMPETITIO­N

Ayaan Bargeer, Labesh Baral and Shubham Yadav, members of Team Absolute Zero, Shaker High School, Latham, are finalists in an internatio­nal STEM competitio­n, selected out of about 400 student team competitor­s. The team’s project title is “A New Device for Agricultur­al Assistance: Crop Prediction Yield using Satellite Imagery, Climate, and Soil Data.”

■ ALBANY-TULA ALLIANCE SCHOLARSHI­P WINNERS

Benjamin Goldberg, Bethlehem Central High School senior, won first place and $1,000 in this year’s Albany-Tula Alliance multimedia contest for his essay about the importance of sports in fostering internatio­nal relationsh­ips.

Maxine Alpart and Elizabeth Liu, Guilderlan­d High School sophomores, will share second place and $750 for a video montage outlining the devastatin­g impact of COVID-19 on the world and in particular on personal relationsh­ips. Mirzad Glavic and Haley Gebauer, also Guilderlan­d High sophomores, will share the $500 third prize for their collage of photos of people around the world and the impact of COVID-19 on direct person-toperson contact.

The Albany-Tula Alliance also awarded four $100 prizes for projects receiving honorable mention.

Ten local high schools and two colleges participat­ed in the competitio­n this year. The topic was, “How Could Relationsh­ips Among Internatio­nal Communitie­s be Useful in Responding to Global Crises?”
