Jenna Dunbar of Hudson Falls competed in the pole bending, breakaway roping and goat tying events as a member of the New York team at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo in Des Moines, Iowa. She will be a freshman at Hudson Falls High School in the fall.
■ INTERNATIONAL STEM COMPETITION
Ayaan Bargeer, Labesh Baral and Shubham Yadav, members of Team Absolute Zero, Shaker High School, Latham, are finalists in an international STEM competition, selected out of about 400 student team competitors. The team’s project title is “A New Device for Agricultural Assistance: Crop Prediction Yield using Satellite Imagery, Climate, and Soil Data.”
■ ALBANY-TULA ALLIANCE SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Benjamin Goldberg, Bethlehem Central High School senior, won first place and $1,000 in this year’s Albany-Tula Alliance multimedia contest for his essay about the importance of sports in fostering international relationships.
Maxine Alpart and Elizabeth Liu, Guilderland High School sophomores, will share second place and $750 for a video montage outlining the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the world and in particular on personal relationships. Mirzad Glavic and Haley Gebauer, also Guilderland High sophomores, will share the $500 third prize for their collage of photos of people around the world and the impact of COVID-19 on direct person-toperson contact.
The Albany-Tula Alliance also awarded four $100 prizes for projects receiving honorable mention.
Ten local high schools and two colleges participated in the competition this year. The topic was, “How Could Relationships Among International Communities be Useful in Responding to Global Crises?”
