O’Dell sank two free throws with 1:49 to play to give the Golden Knights the lead for good. Josh McGettigan’s bucket extended the lead.

Ronnie Silva’s jumper as time expired did not go down, giving Saint Rose (3-0, 1-0) its third straight win to start the season.

The game was close throughout. Justin Forest knocked down a 3-pointer with less than seven minutes left in the first half to give Adelphi (2-1, 0-1) a 36-29 lead, the largest margin of the game, but Saint Rose closed the first half on a 19-6 run to take a 48-45 lead into halftime.

Chris Coalmon led Adelphi with 20 points and Adonis Williams chipped in 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams came into the game having dropped their first two games of the season. Six minutes in, the Panthers went on a 17-0 run to take command of the game. Saint Rose never mounted a rally and trailed by as many as 22 points in the second half.

During the decisive first-quarter run, Adelphi sank four consecutive 3-pointers over a twominute span, including two from O’Connell.

While Adelphi heated up from downtown, Saint Rose shot 18 percent (2of-11) from the field in the first quarter.
