N.C. State tops Syracuse

Orange RB Tucker passes Joe Morris for season rushing mark

Devin Leary threw for two touchdowns, Zonovan Knight returned a kickoff for a touchdown and No. 25 North Carolina State beat Syracuse 41-17 on Saturday to keep its hopes alive for an Atlantic Coast Conference championsh­ip.

After neither team scored in the first 22 minutes, the Wolfpack scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams in a matter of less than 31⁄2 minutes. It was all part of N.C. State’s 28-point burst in the last 6:14 of the first half.

By the time the game began, N.C. State (8-3, 5-2, No. 20 CFP) had retained a shot at reaching the ACC championsh­ip game because Atlantic Division-leading Wake Forest lost at Clemson. In order to go to Charlotte for the league title game Dec. 4, the Wolfpack must defeat North Carolina on Friday followed by a Wake Forest loss the next day at Boston College.

Syracuse (5-6, 2-5) needs to beat Pittsburgh next week at home to secure bowl eligibilit­y.

Freshman running back Sean Tucker became Syracuse’s singleseas­on rushing leader, passing Joe Morris with a second-quarter carry. Morris set the mark with 1,372 yards in 1979.

Georgia 56, Charleston Southern 7:

Standout defensive tackle Jordan Davis scored his first career touchdown and No. 1 Georgia’s defense was again dominant against Charleston Southern.

Alabama 42, Arkansas 35: Bryce Young passed for a school-record 559 yards and five touchdowns and No. 2 Alabama clinched a spot in the Southeaste­rn Conference championsh­ip game with a victory over No. 21 Arkansas.

Cincinnati 48, SMU 14: Desmond Ridder threw three touchdown passes, ran for another score and even caught a TD pass to help No. 3 Cincinnati roll.

Utah 38, Oregon 7: Britain Covey returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown

on the final play of the first half, giving Utah 14 points in 27 seconds and a 28-0 lead, and the No. 24 Utes ended No. 4 Oregon’s College Football Playoff hopes.

Ohio State 56, Michigan State 7: C.J. Stroud threw for nearly 400 yards and six touchdowns in the first half and No. 5 Ohio State made it look easy in a blowout of No. 7 Michigan State. Michigan State’s Kenneth Walker III, the nation’s leading rusher, was turned into a nonfactor by the Buckeyes. Walker had six carries for 25 yards.

Notre Dame 55, Georgia Tech 0: Jack Coan threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns in a little more than a half and No. 6 Notre Dame had two defensive touchdowns in winning its sixth straight game.

Michigan 59, Maryland 18: Mike Sainristil made a one-handed catch in the end zone for a second-quarter touchdown, Hassan Haskins scored two TDs of his own, and No. 8 Michigan routed Maryland.

Oklahoma State 23, Texas Tech 0: Ninth-ranked Oklahoma State wrapped up its first spot in the Big 12 championsh­ip game with a dominant victory over Texas Tech, completely throttling an offense that hadn’t been shut out since 1997.

Mississipp­i 31, Vanderbilt 17: Matt Corral threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns in his home finale and Mississipp­i beat Vanderbilt.

Baylor 20, Kansas 10: Blake Shapen was sharp in place of injured quarterbac­k Gerry Bohanon, and Baylor’s defense simply smothered Kansas State’s offense, helping the No. 11 Bears beat the Wildcats.

Oklahoma 28, Iowa State 21: Caleb Williams passed for a touchdown and ran

for another, Jalen Redmond returned a fumble for a score and No. 12 Oklahoma held off Iowa State.

Clemson 48, Wake Forest 27: Kobe Pace ran for a career-high 191 yards and two touchdowns and Clemson won its 13th straight over No. 13 Wake Forest, delaying the Demon Deacons’ run to the ACC Atlantic title.

BYU 34, Georgia Southern 17: Jaren Hall had 211 of his 312 yards passing in the first half, Jakob Robinson picked off two passes in the second half and No. 14 BYU beat Georgia Southern.

UTSA 34, UAB 31: Frank Harris threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Oscar Cardenas with three seconds left, rallying No. 15 UTSA to a wild victory over UAB.

Texas A&M 52, Prairie View 3: Devon Achane and Isaiah Spiller combined for three touchdowns before halftime, and No. 16 Texas A&M routed Prairie View A&M.

Iowa 33, Illinois 23: Charlie Jones had a 100-yard kickoff return for No. 18 Iowa’s first touchdown and the Hawkeyes went on to beat Illinois.

Wisconsin 35, Nebraska 28: Braelon Allen rushed for 228 yards and three TDs to help No. 19 Wisconsin outlast Nebraska for its seventh consecutiv­e victory.

Pittsburgh 48, Virginia 38: Kenny Pickett threw for 340 yards and four touchdowns — all of them to Jordan Addison — and No. 20 Pittsburgh claimed the ACC Coastal Division title.

Louisiana-Lafayette 42, Liberty 14: Levi Lewis threw for 166 yards and three touchdowns and No. 22 Louisiana-Lafayette had five takeaways and seven sacks.
