Take to the road with STA for a rewarding career and training that’s second to none!

Looking for a new career with paid training, a competitive salary and a family-oriented company you can count on? If you enjoy helping children and would rather drive than sit behind a desk, consider a future with Student Transportation of America (STA), North America’s safest independent provider of school bus transportation services. Richard Miles of Brown Transportation, the hometown Amsterdam company that’s now a part of the STA Family of Companies, says the training you’ll receive is second to none. “We understand that this is a highly responsible and challenging job, and that’s why we offer superb training and a supportive culture,” he says. “Our top priority is the safety of the students we serve, and their safety depends on the person at the wheel being well trained and comfortable working for us.”

Victor Herrera recently began driving for STA and says he’s loving his new job. “I love being around kids and I love driving vehicles, so this is a great fit,” he says. “I’ve been here a few months now - I got my CDL last month - and it’s been a simple process. The teachers, in the classroom and on the road, are excellent - they gave me the tools I needed to pass the CDL test and feel truly confident behind the wheel.”

Miles points out that a friendly bus driver can get a student’s day off to a great start. “You’re often the first adult they see once they leave the house, maybe the first adult who says good morning to them. A great bus ride in the morning is like a healthy breakfast - it paves the way for the rest of the day to be great.” Herrera says those cheerful greetings make his day, too. “It’s exhilarating to have a morning full of smiling kids,” he says. “All you need to do is show them kindness and consideration, and you’ll get that back. I’m finding it very rewarding.”

You’ll also be driving well-maintained, solid vehicles. STA maintains the youngest fleet in the business, and Miles says it’s in tip-top shape. “Every bus is inspected when it leaves the yard and when it comes back, and we strive to stay at 100% with every detail,” he says. “Our mechanic department is fantastic. We’re ordering more new busses right now, but some stay in service for a long time because the driving and maintenance are done so well.” Herrera agrees. “Any little issue that arises gets taken care of right away,” he says. “And the busses are easier to drive than you’d expect, even to parallel park. Plus, you get the

satisfaction of being an important part of the community - if the busses run smoothly, not only do the kids get safely to school but the parents go to work knowing their child is in good hands.”

“The training is thorough, but relatively easy the way we do it,” says Miles. “We don’t rush people - it’s a process, but we help you every step of the way. And we stand behind our drivers.”

So if you’re looking for a job that’s rewarding, important and valued, consider taking to the road with STA. You just might be the one to make a child’s whole world better. “There’s a lot to be said for the joy of all those friendly little ’good morning‘ and ’see you tomorrow‘ moments,” says Herrera. “And there’s enormous satisfaction in having the power to start a child’s day off right.”
