Danes break away in 2nd half for big win

UAlbany reels off 7 straight goals after falling behind

The UAlbany women’s lacrosse team remained perfect in the America East with a 14-8 victory over UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon on John Fallon Field in Albany, setting up a clash with No. 6 Stony Brook next weekend.

Sarah Falk got the scoring started with her 39th goal of the season only 47 seconds into the game. She added her second and third goals at 9:32 left and 7:31 to go in the first, putting the Great Danes up 3-0 early. A goal by Kathyrn Sancilio with 4:44 to play in the period pushed the Danes’ lead to 4-0 before the River Hawks finally answered.

Katie Pascale pushed the UAlbany advantage back to four early in the second quarter, but UMass Lowell chipped away with the next three scores to make it 6-5 at halftime.

Goals by Izzy Liquori and Molly Shaw to start the second half gave UMass Lowell its first lead of the game at 7-6, but it was all UAlbany from there, as the Great Danes scored the next seven goals to push the lead to 13-7 with 4:49 remaining in the fourth quarter. Falk scored two of the goals during the stretch, as well as the game’s final score to finish with six goals and one assist, pushing her season total to 44 goals. Pascale added two goals and two assists for the Great Danes.

UAlbany wraps up its regular season against arch-rival Stony Brook, which visits John Fallon Field on Saturday. The game is set for a 3 p.m. start. Stony Brook is also undefeated in the America East and 11-2 overall. The

Seawolves have beaten the Great Danes for the past 17 meetings, stretching back to 2013.

The last time the Great Danes beat Stony Brook was on May 5, 2012 in the America East championsh­ip game, as the Great Danes earned their second straight conference title.
